Phi Phi Weather is pretty much perfect in November when it is right as the it isn't the supper hot or humid air that you get in March or April, also air visibility is great for photos. Talking of which.... there is an enormous gallery of photos on Phi Phi here.

So what's happening on Phi Phi. Diving is great at the moment with turtle and black tip shark being some of the more high profile sitings... (Moskito Diving). The water is  clear , good visibility typically  but can fog a little when the full moon stronger tides let rip. Now the bespoke the Diving pier ( part of the main pier) is in place you can get on and off the dive boats so much more easily than before (which to be honest was a bit clumsy at times .. :-0)).

Quiet places on Phi Phi

   One of my favourite places on Phi Phi islands is the Bamboo Island. Get yourself out there after say 3pm and you have a stunning beach surrounded by a beautiful coral reef and sandy swimming area. It's up in the middle of know where on its way out to Krabi Province so you get some great scenes of the Krabi coast line.

A good backpacker resort at the moment November (closed low season) is Phi Phi Hill Resort which starts from 750THB a night for 2 sharing. This is one of my favourite low budget places to stay as it has the island's best sunsets.

No Flooding on Phi Phi Phuket 2012

Phi Phi Island, Phuket, Samui and Krabi are not effected by the floods.

Bangkok is about 650 km from Phi Phi Island, Phuket, Samui and Krabi and on the Indian Ocean. These southern holiday destinations have not been effected  by the floods at all and are enjoying a normal high season with normal weather. They have never been touched by the these floods as there are no large rivers or land masses that can hold water.

The islands are running normally, hotels, tours and supplies are normal. However there has been issues with Singha Beer and Singha water as the key bottling factory  in Bangkok has been flooded. This has led to a small increase in prices in bottled water and more carlsberg heineken and  Chang Beer appearing in restaurant menus.

'Bangkok is at the other end of the country compared to Phi Phi Island', said Phil Russell Director of hotelatm.com 'but we are continually asked if there are any problems with the southern islands and the answer is an emphatic no'.

The Chao Praya River is the name of the main waterway that drains the large catchment area north of Bangkok. 8 Trillion cubic meters of water have been trying to get to the sea via the Chao Praya River but northern Bangkok is in the way. This is why the northern suburbs of Bangkok have been flooded. The main Bangkok International Airport at Suvarnabhumi is in the south east of the town and unaffected by the floods.

Most hotels, resorts or guesthouses will offer an international menu at least at breakfast where eggs are ubiquitous form of early morning food. Where the menus get interesting is with the Thai lunches,  Chinese noodles and the full blown curries. Inexpensive or cheap food is a matter of the wallet but I would always go for the freshly caught fish as not only is it fresh that morning it will be way more than 70% cheaper than you'd pay or the western capitals. Cheap Market food on Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi Island market is near the pier on Phi Don Island.Just behind the main street as you walk into to the village there is a thriving market bazaar, selling the entire gamut of fish, meat and vegetables that are common in all Thai cooking. Along side this are the local curry houses where you can find all the local southern favourites from Geng Som to Geng Pla Kem, salty fish and bar b q snapper. My favourites are the fresh seafood curries and as long as you can handle the spices, the fish heads and bones are an amazing culinary experience worthy of more acclaim.

Wholesale prices for food on Phi Phi Island

Phi Phi Don gets it's food from Phuket and Krabi by boat. This is itself explains why food is more expensive as it needs to be handled on and off the boats and the cost of the ferries makes it more expensive.The  market is the place to check out prices but haggling is difficult. If you interested in bulk purchases it is better to do your shopping at the talad (market) in Phuket and Krabi.

At the moment phi-phi.com is making many bookings for the Christmas and New Years  but some of our hotels are telling us they are now full. This happens every year as there are only 3000 rooms on Phi Phi and the influx of tourists to Thailand is measured in the millions!!

What phi-phi.com has also found is that if a hotel or resort is booked, and this goes for all Phi Phi budgets of accommodation, it doesn't necessarily mean it is fully booked tomorrow as, people cancel and some of the national travel agents, who overbooked their rooms, return their allotments to the hotels and resorts. So this means there is nearly always availability but you might need a little patience to the get the room types that suite you.

There are many people who try to just walk of the ferry get accommodation and get their ideal accommodation. This is quite rare as the best rooms get booked up in advance by word of mouth and good reviews for the better hotels  and hostels. All through high season, you see many people gathered at the pier head trying to work out what is going on. the room prices that they saw on the websites are the same but the rooms offered are quite a standard more simple or lower in  quality. There are some good and resourceful guides down by the pier but it is not always a case of expectations and option being equal.

The quirkiness of Phi Phi Accommodation in December

Christmas and New Year are full and in most cases are full by mid November as described above. However if you want the good weather and the December stay, you can look at 12-20th December as this is a lull before the peak season. Traditionally people will travel to the North of Thailand and maybe do a trek in places like Chiang Mai and then come down to the beach for Christmas. Very often there are rooms available in plenty on Phi Phi at this time.

Phuket Phi Phi

Phuket Phi Phi Take a day trip to one of the world's most glamorous islands...! If you are staying in Phuket, a trip out to Phi Phi is a must. Chances are that if you are in Phuket you will see the famous scenery of Phi Phi everywhere you look. Maya Bay on Phi Phi Ley is perhaps the most iconic picture of the southern Thailand as it was the backdrop for the Leonardo Di Caprio movie, 'The Beach'. A day out on a boat is a lovely way to experience the views of the Phang Nga Bay with their limestone cliff scenery and the Phi Phi.

Phi Phi Island is 48km from Phuket and makes a great island hopping destination full of fun or adventure or a great one day tour destination to see the best of the islands.

It can be busy out on the bays off Phi Phi Ley especially in high seasons, so it worth reading up on these few suggestions to make sure you get the tour you plan for.

Phuket Phi Phi Speedboat Tours

This tour appeals to those who love the speed and glamour of the sea as well as getting to see a lot of the islands.  Those who love the roar of the engines, and the wind rushing through their hair will love this tour.

The public speedboat tours of Phi Phi from  Phuket, vary greatly depending on the size of the speedboat. Boats range from 6-30 people. The larger boats are ideal when there are some waves and the smaller ones can be more intimate. I always suggest finding boats that are nearer your party size as that way you dominate the boat!!


The speedboats let you see more of the islands than the cruise ships and get you more time at the bays and at lunch. They also stop off at a cute little snorkeling beach island on the way back to the Boat Lagoon, where many of the tours start.

Phuket Phi Phi Cruises Boats give you the region from a different perspective. These larger, more seaworthy boats appeal to those who enjoy taking their time, taking in the sights at a more leisurely pace. These large ferries are comfortable and you can walk around the decks and buy nic nacs at a kiosk suite those who are perhaps more sight seers than snorkelers, swimmers rather than speed merchants. These boats however do get full and the rows and rows of chairs in the aircon decks can be taken up by large European and Asian groups. On these tours you are moving with crowds so be prepared to wait getting on and off the boats.
